Ethnomedicinal, phytochemical and pharmacological properties of Pogostemon heyneanus Benth: A review

A renewed interest in using nature-originated medicines can be seen throughout the world due to their benefits when compared synthetic or semi-synthetic drugs aspect of increasing quality life human beings. Pogostemon heyneanus Benth is a prominent and well-known medicinal plant Asian countries that recommended with high value traditional practices, Ayurvedic treatments folkloric use. It also known as 'Indian patchouli' 'Java patchouli'. P. pharmacologically economically important its essential oil used perfumery industries well. The consistency presence wide range phytochemical constituents such phenolic compounds, terpenes, steroids, flavonoids, saponins, tannins enables activities like cytotoxic anticancer, antimicrobial, antioxidant, gastroprotective, etc. Essential comprised α–pinene, β-pinene, limonene, β-pachoulin, seychellene, β-caryophyllene, α–guaiene, nerolidol patchouli alcohol. Moreover, unique cause having acetophenone main component which was not reported oils other species. scope present review gather scientific information on terms habitat distribution, uses ethnopharmacology, phytochemistry, (cytotoxic antioxidant gastroprotective), were published before 31st July 2022.
